Through this itinerary, we will listen to the voices of the saints and the blessed of Sicily, witnesses of lives transformed by God’s love.
Itinerario 8 giorni / 7 notti
Day 1: ETNA – CATANIA
Arrival at Catania airport and meeting with our guide. We will start the journey by visiting Catania, the city of Saint Agatha, a martyr whose fidelity to Christ became a beacon for her people. Visit the splendid Cathedral, which houses the relics of the beloved patroness of the city. Transfer to the hotel in Syracuse. Cathedral che custodisce le spoglie dell’amata patrona della città. Day 2: SYRACUSE
After breakfast, visit the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Tears and the House of the Weeping in Via degli Orti, the site of the miraculous event of the Virgin’s tears, a tangible sign of Mary’s maternal love, inviting conversion. We will continue with a visit to the Catacombs of Saint John, linked to the tradition of Saint Marcian, a disciple of Saint Peter. In the afternoon, we will explore the island of Ortigia, the historic heart of the city, with its majestic Cathedral built on the remains of the Temple of Athena, where the silver simulacrum of Saint Lucy, the city’s patroness, is preserved. Return to the hotel.
Day 3: RAGUSA – MODICA – NOTO
Breakfast at the hotel and departure for the Val di Noto, an authentic jewel of Sicilian Baroque, famous for its architecture and timeless charm. In Ragusa and Modica, where popular devotion to St. George is particularly strong, we will visit the magnificent churches dedicated to him, which tell stories of faith and tradition. In the afternoon, we will head to Noto, with its imposing Cathedral of San Nicolò. We will stroll through the extraordinary squares, convents, and noble palaces that testify to its past grandeur. At the end of the day, return to the hotel for overnight stay.
Day 4: CANICATTI’ – AGRIGENTO
After breakfast, we will travel to Canicattì to visit the Museum House of Blessed Rosario Livatino, a young magistrate who lived his work as a Christian vocation, uniting justice and charity. We will pause at the site of his martyrdom to reflect on the call to holiness even in daily challenges. "Justice is necessary, but not sufficient, and it can and must be surpassed by the law of charity, which is the law of love, love for one’s neighbor and for God." (Rosario Livatino)
In the afternoon, we will delve into the historic center of Agrigento, the city of Pirandello. We will visit the Norman Cathedral of Saint Gerland, an imposing place of worship where Blessed Rosario Angelo Livatino was beatified and where his relic, symbolizing his unwavering faith and sacrifice, is devotedly kept. The itinerary will then take us to the Diocesan Museum and the evocative Church of Santa Maria dei Greci, a jewel of spirituality and history, built on the remarkably well-preserved remains of the ancient Temple of Athena, a testament to a time when the sacred intertwined with Greek culture. Day 5: AGRIGENTO – GIBELLINA
After breakfast, we will visit the Valley of the Temples, described by Pindar as "the most beautiful city of mortals." The imposing Doric temples, unique in the world for their construction in gleaming tuff sandstone, bear witness to the eternal dialogue between humanity and the divine. Oriented towards the east, they symbolize the quest for light and hope that has always inspired the human heart.
In the afternoon, we will travel to Gibellina, where the Grande Cretto by Alberto Burri transforms the ruins of the 1968 earthquake into a "shroud" of concrete. This place, with its silent grandeur, is a work of memory and redemption, where art becomes a bridge between pain and hope. Transfer to a hotel in Castellammare del Golfo.
Day 6: SEGESTA – TRAPANI – ERICE
After breakfast and check-out, we will depart for Segesta to visit the ancient Elymian city, its majestic Doric Temple, and the Amphitheater. Here, amidst stones steeped in history, we will discover the “religious sense” of ancient peoples, an eternal yearning to encounter the divine. We will continue to Trapani, with a visit to the historic Salt Pans, where human labor, still carried out today with traditional methods, intertwines with the beauty of creation. A stop at the Salt Museum will reveal the secrets of this ancient activity. In the afternoon, we will reach Erice, a sacred and mythological city, from the cult of the goddess Venus to devotion to Mary. We will stroll through the medieval village, visiting the Cathedral and tasting the typical almond sweets. Return to the hotel.
Day 7: PALERMO
After breakfast, we will visit Palermo following the Arab-Norman itinerary, stopping at its main monuments. In the Cathedral, in addition to the tomb of Frederick II, we will pray before the remains of Blessed Father Pino Puglisi, a witness to Christian charity who gave his life for love, leaving an indelible mark even in the heart of his assassin. We will continue through the alleys of the Arab Ballarò Market, the Quattro Canti, the Pretoria Fountain, and the churches of San Cataldo and Martorana. After lunch, we will visit the Sanctuary of Saint Rosalia on Mount Pellegrino, a sacred place where the remains of the beloved patroness of the city rest. Return to the hotel.
Day 8: MONREALE
