A journey through the Religious Sense of man: Greek mythology, Islamic civilization, the places of Christianity.

Program

1st day:  Syracuse

Arrival at Catania airport and transfer to Syracuse. We will begin the visit from the ancient island of Ortigia, the original nucleus of the city, dominated by the Cathedral built on the still visible remains of the Greek temple dedicated to Athena; we will admire the legendary Fonte Aretusa and the Temple of Apollo. We continue with a visit to the archaeological park of Neapolis, or the "new city": the Greek Amphitheatre, the Roman Theatre, the Altar of Hieron, the ear of Dionysius, the Latomia del Paradiso.

2nd day:  Ragusa – Modica 

Visit to Ragusa: “You have to be intelligent to come to Ibla, a certain quality of soul, a taste for the silent and burning tuffs, the dead ends, the useless turns, the shutters sealed on a black spying gaze.“ (Gesualdo Bufalino)… We will visit ancient Ibla, the historic heart of the city with the Norman Portal of San Giorgio, the precious Baroque Palaces and the splendid Cathedral of San Giorgio. We will continue the journey into the baroque of Val di Noto with a visit to Modica, birthplace of Salvatore Quasimodo.    

3rd day: Etna – Taormina

Excursion with volcanological guide on Etna to the Sartorius Craters on the north-east side, altitude 1800 m. They say she is female, generous and terrible; her presence, mysterious and maternal, dispenses wealth and fertility, but also devastating eruptions. We continue to Taormina: "a strip of paradise between land and sea"... this is how Goethe defined this place which has something divine; visit the historic center among unique views and exceptional monuments such as the Roman Theatre.

4th day:  Catania and the Cyclops Riviera

Visit the historic center of Catania, in particular we will visit the characteristic fish market, the Cathedral dedicated to Sant'Agata and the Piazza Duomo where one of the historical symbols of Catania is located, the "elephant fountain". We continue with a walk along the mythological Riviera of the Cyclops and to Acitrezza among the places of “I Malavoglia”: la Casa del Nespolo, the streets, the church and the sea. Transfer to Catania airport.
